Free Boston Theater by the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company

One of the Highlights of Summer - The 40th Annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular!

If you’ve ever spent the 4th of July in Boston, you know about the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, and this year’s event is slated to be even more exciting at the Spectacular celebrates its 40th year!  Known as the premier Independence Day celebration in the nation, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular welcomes an enormous crowd of people to the banks of the Charles River to enjoy what many people describe as the best 4th of July fireworks they’ve ever seen.  From the Hatch Shell and the Oval, on the Charles River Esplanade, the Boston Pops, led by Keith Lockhart, will provide the dramatic musical backdrop for the fireworks show by playing Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture”, complete with ringing church bells and howitzer cannons!

Celebrate our Nation’s Independence at the 32nd Anniversary Boston Harborfest 2013!

Around Boston, the biggest celebration of the year is known as the Boston Harborfest and this year will be no exception!  The 32nd Anniversary Boston Harborfest 2013 runs from July 2 through July 7 and promises to be bigger and better than ever.  Visitors to Boston Harborfest 2013 can expect free concerts at City Hall Plaza, exhibits and lectures at Faneuil Hall or the USS Constitution Museum, Party on the Plaza and the famous Boston ChowderFest as just some of many wonderful things to enjoy.  Most events are free, but special exhibitions are added just for the Harborfest at many historic sites and other venues in the city.

Unveiling of the Giant Ocean Tank at the New England Aquarium!

Nearing its 44th year, the New England Aquarium will be unveiling its new and improved centerpiece, the Giant Ocean Tank, on June 13, 2013, along with an informative Aquarium Lecture Series.  Months of extensive work and $17 million dollars have been invested into making the Giant Ocean Tank at the New England Aquarium one of the most complex and sophisticated aquatic exhibits in the world.  The GOT will be home to over 100 species, both new and old, including Myrtle, the green sea turtle, and her “friend” Carolina, the loggerhead sea turtle.  Some of the improvements visitors can look forward to are new viewing windows, a redesign of the reef, new species and a reflective ceiling dome.  Handicap accessibility has also become easier with a new ramp provided to the top of the central tank.

The Museum of Science Presents the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit

Scheduled to open on May 19th at the Museum of Science, the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the public to experience firsthand the traditions, beliefs and extraordinary and priceless objects of ancient Israel.  The exhibition, created by the Israel Antiquities Authority, includes fragments from 20 of the Dead Sea Scrolls and more than 600 artifacts, including a 3-ton stone from Jerusalem’s Western Wall, where visitors are encouraged to leave a note to be sent to Israel.  Most of the fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls that have been discovered were found in caves in the area of Qumran, near the northwest corner of the Dead Sea.
